In 2006 I had my first gallery showing. It was called Read Between the Lines and was a collection of my poems that I had placed artwork to. It was on display for a week at the Butler Library at Buffalo State College. This showing also led to my first published pieces of art in the Buffalo Elms literary magazine. The selected works can be viewed by clicking on the title to the right. Prints are framed in a floating glass frame and are for sale. Contact me for prices if you’d like a copy.
My artists statement was as follows:
A picture is worth a thousand words, conversely a thousand words are worth a picture.
My desire to add visual imagery to my writing led me to compose and design this series of poems.
Chronologically this selection begins in the mind of an angst-ridden teen and ends in the mind of a philosophical adult.
Using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, I am able to blend and mesh together my writing and graphic illustrations of myself and my surroundings.
I invite you to read between the lines and take a closer look at what is in front of you.
Peel back the layers using your mind, to see what is on the previous later.
Notice the imagery the text gives, and the emotion it conveys.
These are neither sonnets nor haikus. They are a blend of free-flowing verse and graphic illustration.
It is visual poetry.
